As a company that provides HR and workforce management solutions,  the importance of walking the walk, in terms of providing an exceptional workplace culture for its employees is not lost on UKG. That’s why when the company states, “Our purpose is people,” it’s not just talking about customers and its customers’ people — it’s all about taking care of its own employees, too.

UKG was born from a historic merger that created one of the world’s leading HCM cloud companies. Kronos Incorporated and Ultimate Software announced an intent to merge in February 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic came to global attention. And, as a testament to the power of focusing on people that both pre-merged organizations and  the newly formed UKG share, the company committed to no layoffs or furloughs as a result of the pandemic. In fact, the organization has only grown since that time! It has hired thousands of employees since the merger and plans to welcome thousands more in the coming years.

Shortly after becoming UKG, the company and its people developed a new set of values and behaviors to guide the organization. “Our values and behaviors provide the foundation for building an intentional culture for UKG and ensure we live ‘our purpose is people,’” says CEO Aron Ain. “They not only reflect what is most important to us today, but also what we aspire to be in the future.”

UKG Values and Behaviors

  • We are United: We are inclusive; We are collaborative

  • We are Kind: We are trusting and trustworthy; We are caring

  • We are Growing: We are agile; We are accountable

Employees of UKG — affectionately referred to as U Krewers — have brought these new values to life in many different ways since becoming one entity. In this article, we’ll take a look at a few of the innovative ways U Krewers have realized each of these values.

United: Exploring UKG Employee Resource Groups

U Krewers will be the first to tell you that UKG is a company that welcomes people from all backgrounds. And, if you want to find other like-minded U Krewers to share your story with, you have access to any of the currently eight employee resource groups (ERGs) at UKG. Thousands of employees across 14 countries actively participate in these groups, which include:

  • ADAPT (Accessibility & Disability Allies Partner Together)

  • AsPIRE (Asians and Pacific Islanders Raising Equity)

  • BUILD (Black Upcoming Individuals in Leadership & Development)

  • CARES (Cancer Awareness Resources Education Support)

  • FIRE Up (Female Inclusion, Resilience, & Excellence)

  • UNIDOS (Latin-Hispanic ERG)

  • PRIDE at UKG

Kind: Closing the Gap

At the end of 2021, UKG announced a multimillion-dollar pay equity initiative called Close the Gap, which was designed to drive awareness and action to address the pay disparity among men, women, and underrepresented groups that continues to significantly impact today’s workforce.

Through this campaign, UKG is committing millions of dollars toward creating meaningful and lasting change to address this disparity. This includes a $3 million investment in critical programs and initiatives; partnering with four nonprofits that are focused on bringing greater access to education, opportunity, and pay equity to Women of Color and other underrepresented groups; launching a pay-equity research study in 2022; creating educational resources to increase awareness; and inviting all people to join the Close the Gap Pledge to fight inequality in the workplace.

Growing: UKG Is Looking to Add Nearly 1,500 New Employees in 2022

While so much is unknown, one thing is for certain: UKG continues to grow. Thus, as UKG grows, so does the company’s need for talented, collaborative, and innovative individuals to join the family.

Through the growth, UKG’s purpose – people – continues to shine through. One woman who reviewed her work experience on Fairygodboss reported that:

“UKG is a workplace without boundaries. If you are hard-working and you do a great job, opportunities are endless. Leadership is open and receptive to new ideas, and in my own experience, anything I am interested in trying, I am fully supported. I have two small children and I have never once felt like I couldn’t have it all. I am celebrated for having a family and encouraged to put them first. Because of this, I want to go the distance for UKG and do whatever I can to help the company succeed. Joining this company five years ago was the best decision I ever made."
